Wake Self returns with the killer posse cut, "Different".

Aztec/Apache/Cherokee hip-hop artist, Wake Self, has been holding it down for a minute, and we'll be the first to admit that we've been sleeping on this incredibly talented MC.

But that's all done now. We're officially on board.

Following a dope freestyle flip of Drake's "0 to 100" instrumental a few months back, the Albuquerque-based MC jumps back into action with his latest joint, "Different", a dynamic posse cut featuring Bay Area MC Equipto, Miles Bonny, and Oakland’s Crown City Rocker Raashan Ahmad.

Wake Self's voice is instantly recognizable and his flow is undeniable, plus he's thoughtful, clever, and intelligent. Over a head-nodding beat produced by MaulSkull, Wake Self and his comrades spit some serious bars about keeping it true to self, embracing your uniqueness, and the need to actively uncage your imagination.

If knowledge of self is one of hip-hop's foundational elements, it's also an essential part of the struggle for decolonization and self-liberation.

So let these talented MCs take you on a trip to the forefront of the Indigenous hip-hop movement. They're chasing a dream bigger than fame and money, and that's the path to self-love and acceptance—a more powerful form of wealth than any material gain could give.

Like the chorus tells it: "you might be different / but that don't make no difference / just do what you gotta do".

True.

Apache R&B artist Raphael Deas hooks us up with this amazing track called Complicated.

We get a great number of tracks submitted to us here at RPM and with our small team, it sometimes takes a while for us to listen to them all. While going through our submissions I found this awesome track by Raphael Deas, a honed veteran in the game who has shared the stage with acts such as Michael Jackson, Will Smith and New Kids On The Block to name a few.

Complicated is written and produced by Raphael himself and his music partner Gerald Richardson. This is the first finished solo track of Raphael's after working with the group Homework (which was produced by legendary Maurice Starr). We don't see many R&B/funk/soul artists out of Indian Country, so we'll definitely be on the look out for more from Raphael Deas in the near future!

VIDEO: Sac Storytellers - "Top Secret"

Sac Storytellers serve up roots, reggae and ska, Indigenous style.

Rachel Fowler AKA Rachelonia (Yaqui/Apache) grew up in South Sacramento, CA, and has been gigging and playing in bands for eight years. She was a member of the bluegrass band Nevada Backwards and the electronic group Jeffrey Valentine Extravaganza before becoming the lead singer of this Sacramento based reggae ska band - Sac Storytellers. Clearly a versatile artist, her rich alto voice shines in this genre. Enjoy this performance of their Top Secret, captured at a recent gig at DigitalisStudios, and keep an eye out for more on this band from RPM soon.

#FrybreadFriday: 'More Than Frybread' Trailer

Is Indian Country getting it's own mockumentary à la "Best In Show"? It looks like it, from the trailer for Holt Hamilton Productions' latest film.

More Than Frybread follows some of the competitors in the inaugural World Wide Frybread Association Arizona Chapter Frybread Championship, like Hopi finalist Betti Muchvo:

"There are two things in life that I am probably best at: making bread and beauty pageants."

Good luck Betti! We can't wait to see the whole film, reportedly being released this summer.

Gotta love #frybreadfridays...
